In order to mark the 40 years anniversary of the April revolution, sculptor Alberto Vieira has imagined a commemorative monument, including a tribute to Braga-born Salgado Zenha.
The monument takes inspiration from the silo form, alluding to an idea of memory reservoir, memory storage. The 40 years are represented through 40 overlapping rings that create the monument. Each of these rings is made by 25 elements that suggest books or documents, associated to knowledge, information and archive, referring to the commemorative date.
With a diameter of 4 meters and a height of 8 meters, it was built in stainless steel sheet supported by an inner structure of vertical props, restrained by rings, also in stainless steel. The vertical element has stainless steel and corten steel, and it is composed of two steel sheets. The portrait of Salgado Zenha and the information text were created through laser cutting.
